Diagnosis of interactions between indigenous people and the fauna of their territories in the Araguaia-Tocantins and Xingu regions
Description: Brazil holds one of the largest amounts of biodiversity on the planet, but it is also a country of significant ethnic, linguistic, and cultural diversity. In many places, biological and cultural diversity are generally linked, as the result of human occupation patterns. Therefore, from a biodiversity conservation perspective, it is extremely relevant to preserve traditional knowledge, since biological diversity, in many cases, results from human actions. This project aims to diagnose the interactions between indigenous people of the Araguaia-Tocantins and Xingu regions and the fauna of their territories. We expect to list commonly used species, map interactions by ethnic groups, and correspondent risks to fauna resources, providing a unique perspective to subside management actions that can help to perpetuate its use sustainably.
